"brown discharge" ?: After 30, there is more estrogen made by the ovaries, and the drop in estrogen just prior to ovulation will cause withdrawal bleeding, which turns "brown" when oxidized. After your period the discharge may be brown as it ends, with less active bleeding at that time.
