Dysfunctional Bleed: The main side effect of any of the Progesterone only forms of birth control (i.e. Mirena, Nexplanon, Depo Provera, etc) is abnormal bleeding. As the Progesterone acts on the lining of the uterus and causes thinning, there is abnormal bleeding that can occur in a variable amount and timing. Generally this resolves in 6-9 months. Talk to your GYN if it's problematic.
