Natural Rx: There are no definitive lab tests or other studies to confirm this diagnosis. However, if you are experiencing extreme shifts in mood, energy & levels of activity it's a good idea to treat these symptoms. I suggest natural interventions to avoid the possibility of serious side effects associated with the psychiatric drugs. Supportive lifestyle counseling from a professional you trust can help.

It's important to use your cognitive abilities to help you avoid excesses. Think about the consequences of over-spending & risky sex & try to avoid these. And of course never consider credit card fraud or writing bad bank checks. If you are ever in trouble financially please ask family members, friends and/or a social worker you trust for advice.

A well balanced diet with a lot of fruit & veggies, chicken & fish is important. Omega-3 in fish is particularly helpful for mood. A daily vitamin & mineral supplement should also help. Avoid processed food & too much sugar. And try to get about 30 minutes of aerobic exercise daily. Spending time outside in the sunshine is also a good idea.
