Words matter: The term is sexually transmitted disease. It doesn't mean casual contact. It means genital to genital contact or some variation thereof. These germs are generally not like simple staff or strep germs that get on things in the environment & are passed at random. The germs have specific living requirements that mean they die readily after they leave their preferred tissues.
