A member asked:

Could you tell me what happens to a person psysically when they stop dialysis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dialysis cessation: There are two reasons why a patient would stop dialysis. The first is that the person had acute renal failure and recovered his renal function, ending his need for dialysis. If the person has end-stage-renal-disease and he stops dialysis, he will get progressivly weaker, may have nausea and vomiting and die of fluid overload or hyperkalemia. The time to death is variable.
