A member asked:

I have changed from contraceptive pills to injection.will the injection be effective immediately? & should i use a condom immediately & for how long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PG & STD protection: It is always a good idea to use a condom for those partners not in a mutually monogamous sexual relationship. Contraception only protects against pregnancy and not STD's. Although the injection has an immediate impact the use of a condom for at least one month provides double protection from unintended pregnancy.
