Ear Tube Antics: The eustachian tube connects the middle ear to the back of the throat. When swallowing or yawning, the tube helps equalize air pressure by opening and closing. The normal function of the tube can be altered, especially if inflamed by an illness. A sound can be perceived when the tube opens or closes to equalize the pressure. Sometimes this happens spontaneously. If persistent seek an exam.
