Several reactions: While any food can trigger a food allergy, strawberries are commonly blamed for itchy skin rashes after ingestion and sometimes direct skin contact. More severe allergic type reactions may occur, but are less common. Strawberries contain chemical type substance that can release histamine, causing the itchy rashes. Sometimes the reaction is limited to the mouth/throat with itching--oral allergy.
