Pinched nerve/muscle: At your age, the most likely cause is a temporarily pinched nerve in the neck or shoulder area that cut off circulation and feeling temporarily. Perhaps you bent your head too far or had another recent injury that made this happen. Soreness is normal. Apply heat and gently stretch our head away from and towards your shoulder (stop if the numbness returns) and it will probably resolve.
