Spotting with BCP's : without knowing the pill it sounds like the hormone levels need to be rebalanced. Given your age you may need a higher dose of estrogen to control spotting. Discuss this with your doctor - Generally BCP's help with spotting or intermenstrual bleeding and don't cause it. Good luck

See the doctor: Any unexplained vaginal bleeding should be professionally evaluated. Maybe nothing important, perhaps ust a need for a different contraceptive. But some cases are serious, including STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia, among the most common causes of spotting in women your age (19). So don't take chances: check back with the doctor or clinic where the birth control was prescribed.
