Ovulation spotting: Just prior to ovulation, estrogen levels drop to near zero, producing minor amounts of blood on occasion from degenerating endometrial tissue. This is essentially "normal" , but may sometimes be more pronounced if two eggs ovulate spontaneously, as a result of the higher levels of estrogen dropping, with more endometrial degeneration, hence more bleeding.
