A member asked:

I have a 14 year old girl who has not gotten the hpv, is it late to do it now?

Well within time: The HPV vaccine is indicated for girls and women ages 9 through 26. Before age 14, there are only two doses given within 6 to 12 months apart. After age 14, the vaccine is three doses given over 6 months. It is definitely not too late to get the vaccine, but she may require three doses instead of only two.

Meaning HPV vaccine?: The time to get vaccinated is BEFORE she gets HPV. The Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine (human papilloma virus vaccine, or HPV vaccine) protects a person from being infected by the 7 strains of HPV virus responsible for causing most cervical cancers (and anal cancers), and also protects against 2 strains of HPV that cause genital warts. Kids can get vaccinated in middle school, or at age 9-26 yr.
