Missed period ?: At 42, the ovaries require higher levels of stimulation from the pituitary in order for an egg to mature to the point of ovulation, and without ovulation, the next "real" period may be delayed. Because of the increased estrogen produced in this process, when ovulation does occur you may have some bleeding just prior b/c of the sudden drop in estrogen.
