"8 cm clot" : A period may be "light" because of heavy bleeding inside the uterus, which is blocked from being expelled secondary to a clot, which acts like a barrier. Eventually the clot will be expelled with some cramps. Suggest continuing with the oral bcp's, and seeing your gyn provider if this sort of clot occurs again.

Evaluation: If this was a one time thing then most likely you can monitor your cycles over time and report back to your Obgyn. If you are frequently passing clots then an evaluation by Obgyn now is warranted.
