A member asked:

Might consuming alcohol on antidepressants make them not work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcohol &antidpresnt: First, alcohol is a depressant. This amounts to taking a depressant w/ an antidepressant. In addition, alcohol is a solvent (some forms will take the paint of your car). Beverage alcohol washes the antidepressant meds out of your body. Antidepressants become effective by building up to a sustained level in your blood. If you drink and keep knocking the level down, it defeats the medication.
