Variable effects: HIV infection causes lymphocytes to go down. This means the % of lymphocytes will be <20%. When that happens, the Neutrophil %age would typically be 80% or more....the total WBC count may still be in the normal range or at the lower end of the normal range. The virus does not effect the neutrophils. The virus can cause anemia(reduced production of RBCs which cause Hemoglobin to decline below 12Gms
