Don't ever: With grommets creating a fixed hole in the eardrum anything you put in the canal can carry germs, fungus and debris into the middle ear. The middle ear tissue can easily become chronically infected by common skin germs & staph if you try this. The general rule is you don't put anything in the ear canal that the ear doc does not give you to use.
