Needs removal: A GYN MD needs to conduct a "search mission" during an examination to locate the cotton bud as over time a retained item in the vagina can be a nidus of infection.

REMOVE FOREIGN BODY: You failed to mention your age. Any foreign body in the vagina will eventually cause a disagreeable odor. I usually don't recommend douching, but if that is your practice, I would douche with warm water, insuring that the cotton tip has been removed. If not, I would see a trusted gynecologist for inspection and treatment.
