Heart rhythm test: ECG (electrocardiogram) and EKG (elektrokardiogramm - German spelling) are the same thing. The English language includes words originating from many different languages. The ECG looks at the electrical rhythm and rate of the heart, at a moment in time. Other types of tests look at the rhythm and rate for a longer, 24-hour period.
