A member asked:

Is it possible that lupus is causing my hypothyroidism? my face gets red daily & occasionally extra redness in shape of butterfly rashes

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely ..: Frequency of chronic autoimmune thyroiditis may be increased in patient with autoimmune disorder( connective tissues disorders) but positive autoimmune antibodies ARE COMMON IN GENERAL POPULATION. Another part of the relationship is that due to drugs used to treat connective tissues disorder ( as Lupus) can affect thyroid function . Consult your MD.
