Pinkeye=eye pink: Pinkeye can be triggered by many things. Water, hairspray, dust, foreign bodies, etc. Any agent that is not the consistency of tears can trigger redness/drainage in these sensitive tissues. This can become secondarily infected by simple skin germs or any germ in that irritant. Generous flushing with artificial tears may be adequate to reduce redness/swelling. If it persists see a doc.

Ocular STDs: Yes it is possible although it may be a coincidence. Males can be easily infected with either Chlamydia or gonorrhea without having symptoms but then pass on those infections. Both bacteria can cause pink eye although gonorrhea results in COPIOUS pus draining from the eye. You can also get a chemical pink eye from various substances but that seems less likely in this case.
