Possible causes...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (treatments include: minoxidil, etc...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (such as low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, or a stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male or female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium, etc...

Alopecia: Has multiple causes. An evaluation by PCP will be a starting point. Various treatment may be helpful in reducing further loss and regrowing hair depending on the cause of the loss
