No: The skin reaction to the rhus antigen from poison ivy or oak is temporary and will self heal if kept clean. In cases where the body surface area involved is extensive or local rash causes eyelids to swell shut, etc. steroids can speed the process and aid in reducing itching. A simple OTC product called IVY DRY can speed recovery.
