Oral BCP's: Oral birth control pills need to be taken beginning on the 2nd or 3rd day of a regular period, and every day at the same time to be effective. They must be taken at the same time every evening (within the hour of taking the one the day before). Ask your healthcare provider to prescribe them, if there are no specific reasons not to take them.
