Several: Throat closure can be caused by many things but in the absence of tongue or observed throat swelling, vocal cord dysfunction would be my 1st guess. In this condition, the person suddenly has problem when breathing in. There is another condition known as hereditary angioedema which is associated with throat swelling and closure and can be potentially deadly. Consult an ENT or allergist.
