Irregular bldg.: In one's late 30's and early 40's, ovulation is frequently delayed b/c it takes more estrogen production while the ovary is stimulated more to cause ovulation. This increase in estrogen makes the lining of the uterus thicker, which degenerates irregularly and breakthrough bleeding occurs. A reasonable way to stop this is to take oral bcp's, if no contraindication exists.
