Depends: If you are on suppressive therapy (such as daily Valtrex (valacyclovir) or acyclovir) and also use a backup, the chances are low. However, not using a backup and/or not being on suppressive therapy greatly increases your risk while having an outbreak, so you want to be abstinent during that time for sure.
