Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia has positive, negative & cognitive sxs. A person with positive sxs loses touch with reality with hallucinations or delusions. Negative sxs: lack of pleasure; failing to take care of every day functions; losing motivation; inability to carry out plans & isolation. Cognitive symptoms could include problems focusing, memory problems or difficulty understanding what is going on.

Psychosis: First, schizophrenia (scz) has it's most common age of onset in the late teens or early 20s. A new diagnosis of scz for someone over the age of 40 is unusual. Then, the symptoms have to do with something called psychosis, i.e. Hallucinations and/or delusions. Finally, there are other conditions which may cause a person to become psychotic, including some physical causes. A psychiatrist can help.
