Epinephrine: Food allergies cause life threatening reactions. These reactions can only be effectively treated with Epinephrine (adrenaline). Antihistamines can treat skin symptoms, but if breathing difficulty or low blood pressure happen (which is impossible to predict), they will not help. Anyone with a food allergy should always have Epinephrine available.

Depends: Reactions to foods (allergies) can vary from simple hives to life threatening anaphylaxis. If yours is anaphylaxis you must keep an Epinephrine injector available at all times. If not, you just avoid the foods. Read labels. The FDA requires that processed foods list even trace amounts of any of the leading 8 food allergens in the ingredient listing. Benadryl helps for some.
