Irregular bleeding: If there has been no sexual activity at all, and the possibility of pregnancy is zero, the dark discharge may be a result of early ovulation. If there is a chance that non-penetrating sexual activity may have included the contact of the outer vagina with semen, check for pregnancy with a serum HCG test.
