A member asked:

For how long are meningitis vaccines effective at preventing infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It varies...: It varies among people, among different bacterial meningitis infections, among types of vaccines... so nobody knows for sure. In general, if a person is beyond 5 years after she got properly vaccinated against a particular type of meningitis, and she is now going into a higher risk situation (where there's more chance of getting sick), then she can ask her doctor about getting a booster shot.
