What are most common causes of empyema thoracis? Is empyema a common or rare disease in adults?

Dr. Harold Mandel

Pneumonia: The National Institutes of Health reports there are about 65,000 patients each year in the United States and the United Kingdom who develop pleural infection. Most cases of empyema complicate community- or hospital-acquired pneumonia. There are also cases from iatrogenic causes or without pneumonia. I wish you well with your health!
