BCP taken on time ?: The critical time for starting oral low dose contraceptives is either within 5 days of starting a regular period, or absolutely no longer than 7 days after the last "active" pill. Taking "extra pills" does not cause increased pregnancy risk. Waiting greater than seven days after the last active pill to start a new pack can result in ovulation/pregnancy, even if you are "on time" thereafter.
