Mucus: Such coughing,often hacking productive of very little mucus can be an aftermath of a bronchial infection, reflux from the stomach,from postnasal drip and sinus congestion or from very dry environment from air conditioning or heating systems. Adding some humidity helps if your home or workplace is too dry. Taking a mucus loosening agent like mucinex or robitussin expectorant helps.
