A member asked:

One of my nipples is extremely red, hurting, and even has some bumps on it. what could be causing this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

More info needed: Red, painful nipples may be caused by several processes. Your age and sex would be helpful. In men, the most common cause is mechanical irritation. In women (and rarely men), infectious causes and cancer may need to be considered. Breast feeding mothers are at particular risk for fungal or bacterial infections, and older women for cancer. Without amclear irritant, a doctor should evaluate this.
