Post delivery period: After pregnancy, routine ovulation is delayed, and regular periods do not generally begin for 6-8 weeks. If nursing, the delay is even greater. Pregnancy is possible since ovulation always precedes a menstrual period, so to be certain, obtain a serum HCG test if unprotected sex has occurred since delivery.
