Hard to say: About 4% of all pregnancies result is an unexpected outcome. I'm sorry for your loss. You can get early prenatal care, follow all the suggested rules on nutrition & checkups & this can still happen. The event often occurs in the womb prior to labor. I've had infants survive with 3 true knots in the cord or it wrapped 5 times about the neck. Sometimes the cause in never found.
