Ok if not pregnant: We do avoid metronidazole during the first trimester of pregnancy but it should be ok if you are not pregnant. If you are still concerned I would talk with your doctor about an alternative.

Toothache: Most common cause of toothache is infection (abscess) followed by fracture. Infection will do more harm to fetus than metronidazole (Flagyl). Antibiotics only work while you are taking them. Will not interfere with conception. Important that you have tooth treated now before the infection gets out of hand. See your Dentist, and be frank about your medical history.

Speak to: your dentist about this. Metronidazole is not recommended for women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Perhaps (s)he could change the antibiotic or even better, treat the condition so you don't need to stay on antibiotics for long
