A member asked:

How can i tell if red spots in my stool are blood or just food? does the toilet water turn red if its blood?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Test for Blood: Red spots are more likely to be food particles. Blood in stool often get altered during passage through intestine and may not be red nor turn the water red. You should see your doctor for an examination and a stool blood test. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
