A member asked:

Could i have an intestinal obstruction from severe constipation? if so, how would i know?? is there a risk of perforation and sepsis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible: Severe constipation can result in intestinal obstruction. If you have not had a bowel movement in a week, you are at risk for bowel obstruction. To prevent constipation, increase you intake of fiber foods, or take a fiber laxative like Metamucil. Plus drink enough water daily so that your urine is most colorless. Exercise also helps in moving the bowels. Consult this site for fiber foods. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948
