A member asked:

What does it mean if my healthy 30 year old son has one thumb nail that grows in bumpy..all other nails are perfect, should i be concerned, worried!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No concern: If all of the nails are healthy except one, it is most likely related to an old injury to the growth area of the nail bed and may be permanently irregular. Other systemic causes usually affect all of the nails and fungal infection makes the nail thickened and is not common in the fingernails unless the toe nails are affected or chronic athletes foot.
