Hard to know: A common presentation for Tinea versicolor (fungal infection), but other possibilities exist and a physical exam and interview may be necessary for diagnosis. Treatment can involve topical selenium sulfide, topical zinc pyrithione, or topical otc antifungals. Can take weeks to resolve with treatment and the pigment change can persist for much longer after fungal infection eliminated.
