Depends: Many women start Depo-Provera or Mirena (levonorgestrel) at the wrong part of their cycle, often right before the start of their period. Since a drop in your Progesterone usually triggers the period, starting Progesterone at this time creates an imbalance which results in prolonged bleeding. Make sure to get the Mirena (levonorgestrel) right after your period ends, or ask about adding estrogen for a short time if bleeding persists.
