Varies: Did you injure it in any way? There are a variety of causes from post-traumatic, to inflammatory, to degenerative causes (although unlikely in 22 yo). A detailed exam and appropriate studies would likely determine the cause. I would not hesitate to be seen for an accurate diagnosis.
