Warfarin is the: oldest anticoagulant (i.e. blood thinner) and most often used medication for PE. However there are newer anticoagulating options called factor Xa inhibitors available now including Xarelto and Eliquis (oral) as well as Arixtra or fondaparinux (Injectable). There are also thrombin inhibitors such as Pradaxa (oral) and low molecular weight heparins such as Lovenox or enoxaparin (injectable).

Warfarin: there are other meds but you should discuss this with your medical doctor and if applicable your oncologist to determine if this treatment is for a fixed time or lifelong
