Hormonal imbalance : Periods may differ in nature from usual cycles if there is a hormonal imbalance. You could have also been going through a period of stress, intense exercise, diet or traveling. Sometimes changing the contraceptive pills can cause imbalances too. It is also a good idea to rule out pregnancy and a possible miscarriage. My advice is to see your doctor for an assessment

Can happen: This occasionally happens , and we think that unbalanced hormones causes it(although no solid proof) and it usually normalizes the following month. If it doesn't , then need an exam.
