A member asked:

What is the implication of mucus threads in urine? could long standing lichen sclerosis contribute to the finding of mucus threads?

Dr. James Lin answered

Here are some...: Mucus in urine oftentimes results from contamination at urine collection, which occurs most commonly in females of overweight. Lichen sclerosis would not induce mucus appearance in urine. Hence, it is reasonable to repeat urinalysis with the carefully collected fresh urine specimen, and is is okay to see mucus as long as being comfortable in urine and having no blood or bacteria in urine.
