Unlikely: Being suicidal is not grounds for being admitted. Many of our depressed patients have thoughts of suicide. However if you have an active plan such as having a gun in your house that you are ready to use on yourself, then yes, you would likely be admitted.

Depends: If you only have suicidal thoughts or self-harming ideas, but do not plan to act on it. Also if you have a plan about what to do in case you want to act on those thoughts, you will be offered a lower level of care other than inpatient admission. But do seek help if you feel depressed.
