A member asked:

Rod placed in leg and stitches have dried black blood 1.5weeks after. used neosporin and covered it. why does it look so nasty ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wash : Neosporin is a good topical antibiotic, but it is not what you need here. Unless the wound looks infected (red, hot, painful, draining fluid/pus) there is no need to use an antibiotic. If you do see these changes you should see a doctor. In general for stitches: wash with soap and warm water, pat dry, loose adhesive bandage, avoid submersion/excessive moisture.
