Hormones: Hormones definitely plan a role in your menstrual period since it occurred after increasing your dose, I suspect the two are related. If these cramps are mild, and you are able to live with them, it is normal. However, if they are severe and cause you pain, you need to request an alternate medication or return to your previous dose. Discuss with your doctor. Don't adjust dosages on your own.

The double dose of: estrogen may be making the uterine lining thicker than normal. Withdrawal from the progesterone double dose is allowing that thick lining to be shed as a heavy menstrual period and/or cramping. It's not safe to do what you did. First, you may end up running out of pills. Second, too much estrogen can cause blood to clot too easily. Please stop doing this and see your gyno! Dr. Anne
